Welcome Center Information and Registering in Pickerington Schools

General Welcome Center and Registration Information

The Welcome Center was created to give families a central location to answer questions, provide district information and process the online registration applications.

To begin the online application, please start with determining if you are a “new family” or an “existing family”.

Existing families are those who have a student currently enrolled in our district and are adding another age appropriate student.  These families should register students by logging into their existing Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.  To access the online registration: Go to More>Online Registration>Click here to start New Student Registration>Begin Registration. Even if you are enrolling a student as an existing family, you must provide residency documents.  This is not an annual update when adding another school age student to your existing account.

New families are those that have never had a child enrolled in our district or are re-enrolling a former student.  The new family registration is found with this link: Online Registration Application.

Please reference the “List of Required Enrollment Documents” dropdown below to see the items you will need to gather to begin the enrollment process.  All new enrollments require residency documents to be uploaded to the online application, even if you are an existing family.

Once you submit your application, the Welcome Center will work to process the application in a timely manner.  You will receive email communication from the Welcome Center if there is something missing or needs corrected on the application.

Once your application is processed, all communication will come directly from the school.

Allowable Enrollment Exceptions

Enrolling under the 90 Day Waiver

If you are moving into the district, but haven’t closed on your PLSD home, it may be possible to enroll your student in Pickerington Schools prior to your move.

Under state law and board of education policy, the Pickerington Schools grants a period of 90 calendar days for you to physically move into the district.

For enrollment, you must have a signed purchase agreement/contract showing you are purchasing a home in the district (rental agreements do not apply for this situation; purchase only).

If you have further questions, call the Welcome Center at 614.920.6180.

Enrolling using a 60 Day Temporary Custody Waiver

If you live in the district and are obtaining custody, residential rights, or guardianship through the court, you may be able to enroll your student in Pickerington Schools prior to finalizing the change.

As provided for in state law and covered in board policy, Pickerington Schools has chosen to work with parents to get their children enrolled in school, in all cases possible.

Pickerington Schools grants a period of 60 calendar days for parents to obtain the final, judge-signed document that legalizes the change.

For enrollment, you must have:

  • a motion that has been filed and date-stamped by the court; and
  • a notarized statement from the parent or guardian who currently has the right to enroll the student in school, stating that:

  2. he/she understands you are enrolling the child in Pickerington Schools; and
  3. full current address and phone numbers where he/she can be reached for verification; and

Kindergarten Registration

General Kindergarten Registration Information

Kindergarten Registration for the 22/23 Academic Year begins March 14, 2022.

Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old by August 1 of that school year to enroll. For more information, see Board Policy 5112. The district offers half-day kindergarten both morning and afternoon sessions. Parents may request a morning or afternoon preference. Depending on the number of parents with preferences, a lottery may be held to determine placement.

AM Kindergarten is from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

PM Kindergarten is from 1:05 p.m. to 4:05 p.m.

To start the kindergarten registration process, parents fill out the online registration form through Infinite Campus. This form will not be active for the 2022-23 school year until Monday, March 14, 2022.

The first step in the process is to identify yourself as an “existing” or “new” family in the district.

Existing families are those who have a student currently enrolled in our district. These families should register students by logging into their existing Infinite Campus parent portal account. If you do not know your access information, see the Infinite Campus information below.  You must still provide the required residency documents.  Please do not complete the application as an “Annual Update”.

New families have never had a child enrolled in our district. “New” families should proceed by going to the online registration form.

Please note that if you are not the residential/custodial parent or if you do not currently live in the district, you should call the Welcome Center at 614.920.6180 before beginning the enrollment process. This will ensure a timely processing of your application.

If you experience technical issues while accessing the online registration system, please try the following:

  • Read and follow all directions carefully.
  • Close applications and files other than the web browser you are using to register.
  • Update your web browser to the latest version, or try a different browser.
  • Registering with a tablet or smartphone is not recommended.

Kindergarten registration for fall 2022 begins in the district on Monday, March 14.

After completing the application — including uploading required documents — please submit the application. Once submitted, Welcome Center staff will review the application and contact you by email if there is anything else needed. Depending on the number of applications received in a day, the process can take 24 to 72 hours.

If the application is completed without issue, an email will be sent to the parent stating the application has been approved/processed, and the paperwork will be forwarded to the appropriate school. Please wait for further communication to come directly from the school regarding readiness assessments and teacher assignments.

Parents are advised that, due to the high number of calls, our staff and phone lines at the Welcome Center may be very busy at the beginning of kindergarten registration. Please be patient and leave a voicemail or send an email with questions or concerns.

Letter to Parents About Kindergarten Enrollment

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Pickerington Local School District! We are excited that your child will be joining us in August for kindergarten. Developmentally, it is likely the most important year in your child’s life. We believe that the first year of formal schooling is an essential introduction to academics, social/emotional interactions, and building upon their natural curiosities through discovery.

Our kindergarten program was designed to promote that discovery and build their self-confidence through introduction to literature, mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences. Our teachers and principals work to ensure that your child feels comfortable and safe while learning in a new environment.

To help us build class lists and to understand your child, a time slot will be assigned for one of three days (August 15th, 16th, or 17th). During that time, you will drop your child off at the school and a team of teachers will complete diagnostic assessments to identify what students know and can do in different domains. These assessments help teachers determine what students understand in order to build on the student’s strengths and address specific needs. It helps the principal to build heterogeneous classrooms. Students will also meet all kindergarten teachers, tour the building, and interact with a few of their peers. Using this time to orient your child to the new learning environment is one essential component to ensure your child’s success in the coming school year. On August 18th, the principal or classroom teachers will call you to let you know who your child’s classroom teacher will be for the coming school year. More information regarding this plan will be sent to you by your principal.

To accomplish all that we hope for this year, we need a strong partnership with you. There are two important features to the partnership from our perspective. First, please review the following academic resources that focus on skills that are helpful as children enter kindergarten. We ask that you work with your child on these skills over the next two months. Secondly, your academic support will be needed throughout the school year. This year we will provide literacy-focused mini-lessons and activities that can be completed at home or during time at daycare. These activities and mini-lessons will extend their learning and help meet academic goals to prepare them for first grade. More information will be provided through your child’s teacher or principal after the school year begins. Our goal is to ensure that every child meets her or his potential, remains curious, and is prepared for first grade.

Pickerington also has a literacy intervention program. Based on reading diagnostic assessments completed in early September, some students will qualify for KLIP (Kindergarten Literacy Intervention Program). More information on KLIP will be provided in September.

We look forward to working with you to ensure your child is healthy, happy, and learns to love learning during this first formal year. Please review the August calendar contained in the pdf below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Change My Address?

It is very important that an address be changed as soon as the move occurs. Addresses cannot be changed through the Parent Portal.  You must contact the Welcome Center to change your address and provide the necessary proof of residency.

To change an address:

  • Complete a Change of Student Information form
  • Return form to the Welcome Center with proof of new residency (i.e., signed settlement statement, signed lease agreement, current electric or gas bill)

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Welcome Center at 614.920.6180.

What Changes Can Be Made Through the Parent Portal?

With the exception of address changes and student name changes (for which you should fill out the Change of Student Information Form), and custody updates (contact the Welcome Center), all other information can be updated using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. This includes phone numbers, email addresses, family relationships, adding/deleting emergency contacts, etc.

Parents submit their changes and updates on the Parent Portal, where it will be processed by a Welcome Center staff member.

If you have a problem activating your parent account, the help request form can be found under “Getting Help” under Infinite Campus on the district website. Be sure to fill in all the fields.
