Summer Learning Opportunities 2021-22

We are excited to be able to share with you the multiple opportunities available to students this summer! Students who need additional support in reading, math, or with high school graduation requirements will be invited via Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by their high school principals. Once registration is complete, parents will receive registration confirmation and additional information about your child’s summer program. There are also summer physical education classes and interest based camps available!

Transportation will be provided to students who enrolled in Summer Academy and HS Credit Recovery. You will receive transportation information during the registration process and in your confirmation. We look forward to a great summer full of fun learning opportunities!

Grades K-4

Summer Academy

Dates: May 31 – June 16, 9:00-12:00 (No Friday)

Location: Tussing Elementary 

The Summer Academy is intervention programming for students in both ELA and mathematics.  Students will participate in learning activities that address identified skills gaps with highly effective instruction. This camp is by invitation only. 

Interest Based Camps

Dates: June 21 – June 30, 9:00-12:00  (No Friday)

Monday – Thursday

Location: Tussing Elementary

PLSD Summer Interest Based Camps are an opportunity for teachers to create new learning opportunities that enrich and engage students. Camps are all one week long (Monday-Thursday) and will focus on authentic learning experiences or performance-based tasks. As a result, students will develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.

Interest based camp locations will be determined and communicated by the summer coordinator and the course instructor.  Availability is based on a first come; first served basis, as all sessions have limited seating.

No transportation will be provided.

Grade 3 ELA Bridge

Dates: May 31 – June 16, 9:00-12:00  (No Friday)

Monday – Thursday

Location: Tussing Elementary

The Grade 3 ELA Bridge is an intervention program for third grade students who have not met the promotion criteria for reading.  Students will participate in learning activities that target specific skill gaps in reading. This camp is by invitation only.

Extended Day - Offered by YMCA

Dates:

May 31 – June 16 

Monday – Thursday 12:00-5:00 

Friday 9:00 – 5:00

Location: Tussing Elementary

 

Extended Day is an option for parents  to pick their students up by 5:00 p.m. Parents will be provided an opportunity to sign up with the YMCA for the extended day service based on a sliding fee scale. 

*Fees are as follows: 

Monday-Thursday, 12pm-5pm $95.00/week

Monday-Thursday, 12pm-5 & Friday, 9am-5pm  $105.00/week

Financial assistance available through the YMCA Subsidy program and Franklin County Public Funded Child Care (PFCC)

*No programming will be offered, Monday, May 30th or Monday, June 20th in recognition of Memorial Day and Juneteenth. Weekly fees will be prorated. 

Grades 5-7

Grades 8-12

Summer Academy — Credit Recovery

Dates: May 31 – June 17 and June 21 – July 1, 9:00-12:00

Location: PHSN

The Summer Academy is for students who need to re-take a previously failed course.  This program is designed as a traditional credit recovery option.  Students will participate in learning activities through Apex software and teacher developed lessons. Course offerings include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Math 4, ELA 9-12, Integrated Science and Biology.  This camp is by invitation only.

8-12 Interest Based Camps

Dates: June 21 – June 30, 9:00-12:00  (No Friday)

Location: Pickerington North HS

Ohio State Test (OST) Intervention

Dates: June 13 – June 17 and June 21 – June 24 

Testing Window June 27 – July 8, 2022  

Location: PHSN

Ohio State Test Intervention is for students retaking Algebra I and/or ELA II Ohio State Tests.  Students will participate in targeted intervention test taking strategies.  AP American History and AP Principles of Democracy students who did not previously complete the AP or the OST in the spring are required to complete the OST in the summer – these students will not participate in classes prior to the test. 

ELA II and Algebra I tests will be invited to participate.

Rising Freshman

Dates: June 6 – June 16, 2022  (No Friday)

9:00-12:00

Location: PHSN

Rising Freshman is math intervention programming for incoming high school freshmen.  The program is designed to build student confidence in math abilities.  Students will participate in learning activities that address learning loss and target students’ specific skill gaps.  This camp is by invitation only.

PE - New Credit 

Dates: May 23rd – June 3rd

8:00AM – 2:30PM

Location: Lakeview JHS

PE for New Credit (1/4 credit) is for grade 8 students who have completed junior high school physical education as well as for students in grades 9-12.  Students must attend all class sessions to receive credit. June 6th is the only make-up day. Students should bring a sack lunch (no sugary drinks) and will be provided a 30 minute lunch daily.

Transportation is not provided.

Fee $175
