Summer Learning Opportunities 2020-21

We are excited to be able to share with you the multiple opportunities available to students this summer! Please scroll down this page for a complete list of the summer programming options at each grade level.

With the exception of PE for new credit, participation is free, and transportation will be provided. All sessions are face-to-face. Registration information will be forthcoming, and all summer programming options are contingent upon available personnel and student enrollment.

Grades K-4

Summer Academy

Dates: June 1st – June 18th, 8:30-11:45

Location: Tussing Elementary (GrK-3); Harmon Middle School (Gr4)

The Summer Academy is intervention programming for students in both ELA and math.  Students will participate in learning activities that address learning loss and target students’ specific skill gaps.  This camp is by invitation only.  

 

Summer Boot Camp

Dates: June 1st – June 18th, 8:30-11:45

Location: Tussing Elementary (GrK-3); Harmon Middle School (Gr4)

The Summer Boot Camp will offer students the ability to review the essential understandings and priority standards in ELA and math.  Students will participate in learning activities that highlight the content necessary to be successful in the next sequence of instruction.  This camp is open to any student.

Interest Based Camps

Dates: June 1st – June 25th, 8:30-11:45

Location: Tussing Elementary (GrK-3); Harmon Middle School (Gr4)

Interest Based Camps are one-week camps, developed and designed by individual teachers, that reinforce the power standards from respective content areas.  Students will participate in performance based tasks and authentic learning experiences.  These camps are open to any student.  Camp topics will be available at registration.

Grade 3 ELA Bridge

Dates: June 1st – June 25th, 8:30-11:45

Location: Tussing Elementary (GrK-3)

The Grade 3 ELA Bridge is intervention programming for third grade students who have not met the promotion criteria for reading.  Students will participate in learning activities that target specific skill gaps in reading.  This camp is by invitation only.

Grades 5-8

Junior High Integrated Science Bridge

Dates: June 7th – June 25th, 8:30-11:45

Location: PHSC/PHSN (Gr7-8)

The Junior High Integrated Science Bridge is a session tailored to VLA students who were not able to take Advanced Science 7/8.  Students will participate in learning experiences that prepare them to take Integrated Science in Grade 8.  This camp is by invitation only.

Junior High Algebra I Bridge

Dates: June 1st – June 18th, 8:30-11:45

Location: PHSC/PHSN (Gr7-8)

The Junior High Algebra I Bridge is a session tailored to VLA students who were not able to take Advanced Math 7/8.  Students will participate in learning experiences that prepare them to take Algebra I in Grade 8.  This camp is by invitation only.

Grades 9-12

Summer Academy

Dates: June 1st – July 2nd, 9:00-12:00

Location: PHSC/PHSN

The Summer Academy is for students who need to re-take a previously failed course.  This program is designed as a traditional credit recovery option.  Students will participate in learning activities through Apex software and teacher developed lessons.  Course offerings include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Math 4, ELA 9-12, Integrated Science and Biology.  This camp is by invitation only. 

Summer Boot Camp

Ohio State Test (OST) Intervention

Dates: June 28th – July 9th; Testing Window July 12 – July 23

Location: PHSC/PHSN

Ohio State Test Intervention is for students retaking Algebra I and/or ELA II Ohio State Tests.  Students will participate in targeted intervention test taking strategies.  This camp is by invitation only.

Rising Freshman

Dates: July 19th – August 6th

Location: PHSC/PHSN

Rising Freshman is math intervention programming for incoming high school freshmen.  The program is designed to build student confidence in math abilities.  Students will participate in learning activities that address learning loss and target students’ specific skill gaps.  This camp is by invitation only.

PE - New Credit 

PE – New Credit 

Dates: May 26th – June 9th

Location: Lakeview JHS

PE for new credit is for incoming Grade 8 students who have completed junior high school physical education as well as for students in Grades 9-12.  Transportation is not provided for this course, and the fee to participate is $175.  This session is open to any student entering 8th grade or above.
