November 25, 2024 - Pickerington, OH – During its November 25 Board business meeting, the Pickerington Local Schools Board of Education voted to appoint Dr. Scott J. Hunt as the interim superintendent, effective February 1, 2025.

Hunt brings a wealth of experience to his role as interim superintendent, having served as superintendent of Cardinal Local Schools and as deputy chief at the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. His distinguished career also includes positions as a middle school principal, high school counselor, and elementary school teacher. Although his official start date is February 1, Dr. Hunt will join the District on January 6 to connect with schools, staff, and the community in preparation for this important leadership transition.

“I am honored to step into the role of interim superintendent for such a dedicated and vibrant school community,” said Dr. Scott J. Hunt, former Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Deputy Chief of Field Relations. Starting in January, I look forward to meeting our students, staff, and families and collaborating to ensure continued success for the District."

This appointment follows the October launch of the Board’s search for the District’s next superintendent in partnership with K-12 Business Consulting, Inc., a leading organization supporting school boards across Ohio in recruiting educational leaders.

“Given the time of Superintendent Brigg’s retirement on January 31, 2025, appointing an interim superintendent was the best way to ensure a robust search,”  said Pickerington Local Schools Board President Clay Lopez. “By taking this approach, we can focus on identifying the strongest possible leader for our District while maintaining continuity in leadership. We remain committed to an inclusive and equitable search that reflects the needs and values of our community.”

Superintendent Chris Briggs will retire on January 31, 2025, after serving as the District’s leader since 2017. Under his leadership, Pickerington Local Schools has achieved new milestones in educational excellence and strengthened its ties with the community.

To guide the search for the next superintendent, the Board developed a Superintendent Profile based on input from students, staff, and community stakeholders. The Board is seeking a highly qualified candidate with a proven track record in educational leadership and administration, aiming to have a new superintendent in place by August 1, 2025.

Key details about the search include:

  • Applications will be accepted through January 10, 2025.

  • First-round interviews will take place in early February.

  • Final interviews are scheduled for late February.

To foster transparency and encourage community engagement, the District has launched a Superintendent Search page  on its website. This page provides updates, announcements, and key dates related to the search process.

We encourage students, staff, and the community to visit the Superintendent Search page on the Pickerington Local Schools website, for more information.
