The CAPA Marquee Awards is a regional awards program of The Jimmy Awards®/National High School Musical Theatre Awards®, recognized through CAPA's membership in the Broadway League. As part of its local awards program, CAPA sponsors a prestigious national program for high school musical theatre students.
To evaluate nominated students and productions, three adjudicators from the CAPA Marquee Awards program attend a performance of each participating school's qualifying musical theatre production and provide valuable written feedback to the production's cast, crew, and creative team.
The culminating event of the CAPA Marquee Awards is an Awards Showcase that provides students from all participating high schools the opportunity to perform at a professional venue and work with a team of theatre and music professionals.
On May 25, 2023, the CAPA Marquee Awards will announce the winners of each category at a student showcase event at the Ohio Theatre. Modeled after the Tony® Awards, the showcase will include live performances from the nominees for Best Musical Production, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Actress in a Leading Role. In addition, opening and closing numbers will incorporate nominated students from all participating high schools.
The students selected as Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role will be designated as official Jimmy® Award nominees and will receive a CAPA-sponsored trip to attend "Jimmy's Week" in New York City. During this intensive training, they will have the opportunity to work with theatre professionals and industry experts, and they will compete at the national level for the 2023 Jimmy Awards® for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.
