Pickerington High School North Earns Purple Star Designation for Military Support

April 16, 2025, Pickerington, OH – Pickerington High School North has been honored with the Purple Star designation as part of the Class of 2025 by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This prestigious recognition celebrates the school’s dedication to serving military-connected students and families by addressing their unique academic and wellness needs.

“Being named a Purple Star school is a true honor and reflects our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families,” said Pickerington High School North Principal Jim Campbell. “We understand the challenges of frequent transitions, and we strive to provide a consistent, welcoming environment that values resilience, service, and inclusivity—ensuring every student feels supported, and every family feels connected to our community every step of the way.”

To earn this designation, schools must meet rigorous criteria established by Ohio’s Purple Star Advisory Board. Pickerington High School North has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to fostering a supportive environment for military-connected youth, ensuring they have the resources to succeed academically and navigate school transitions seamlessly.

“The designation signifies our commitment to supporting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families,” emphasized Pickerington High School North Counselor, Md-Sc Eric Rutter. "These students often face challenges such as frequent relocations, parental deployments, and transitions that can impact their academic and emotional well-being. Being recognized as a Purple Star School means Pickerington High School North has created a welcoming, informed, and responsive environment that values the experiences of our military-connected students and families. Additionally, it also serves to identify Pickerington North as an environment that recognizes those who serve our country by serving their children with compassion, understanding, and dedicated support.”

Achieving the State of Ohio Military Purple Star designation is a proud achievement for the Pickerington Local School District. With both Pickerington High School Central and Pickerington High School North earning this distinguished honor, the district reaffirms its dedication to supporting military-connected families.

The Purple Star award is valid for three years, during which the school will continue its mission to serve military families. Pickerington High School North will have the opportunity to apply for renewal in fall 2027 to be part of the Purple Star Class of 2028.

Schools that receive this designation are encouraged to celebrate the achievement with special events and can showcase their recognition by displaying the Purple Star logo on their website and campus. Print-ready certificates and banners are also provided by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to commemorate the award.

Dackin.
