Debra Skarsten

Hello! My name is Debbie Skarsten, and I am the EL teacher at Ridgeview STEM Junior High School. I am passionate about this subject and try to use my real life experience to help me do the best job I can as a teacher of students who are learning English as a new language. I have been a second language learner myself. I was a high school exchange student and knew three words of my new language when I landed in country. I started school just a few weeks later and remember well how difficult it was to be in that situation. I also parent several children who joined our family through adoption and are new to the English language. I have learned a great deal by experiencing the world of education through their eyes. My goal is that all EL students and families will have access to the finest our education system can offer so that students may pursue their future dreams.
