Phase 3 Extracurricular Training Updates

Dear PLSD Parents,

As we complete our sixth week of our “return to play” plan, we have followed the guidelines and brought our students back to campus safely with minimal setbacks. As we continue to move towards the fall, our goal will continue to be the safety of our students, staff, families and community. We want to take this opportunity to update you on several changes that have occurred this past week.

Earlier in the week the Governor’s office and OHSAA announced that Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis and Boys and Girls Golf have been given the approval to begin official practice on August 1. Those programs will continue their preparation for the start of their Fall season. The remainder of our fall programs, Football, Boys and Girls Soccer and Boys and Girl Cross Country have not been given approval to begin their seasons on August 1. They will also continue following the guidelines that we currently have in place in anticipation of further announcements from the Governor and OHSAA. Also, our Cheerleading and Band programs will continue their preparations in anticipation of their Fall seasons.

This week, Pickerington Local Schools also made wearing masks a requirement. That is now part of the guidelines that we are operating under. Staff and students are now required to wear a mask when not actively participating in an activity. The Parent Guidelines are attached for your reference.

We ask that you carefully read the updated guidelines for our Phase 3 “return to play.” It will take all of us to continue following the guidelines to ensure the safety of our students, families, staff and community. As parents of our students, you play a major role in our reopening, if not the most important role. Your evaluation of your child’s health every day is critical as our goal continues to be the safety of your son/daughter, your family, our students, staff and the entire community. It is your responsibility to report the results of any coronavirus test results to the athletic trainer in your respective school. Your child, should they have a positive test, will not be allowed to return to practice until they have received written clearance from the health department. Do not hesitate to reach out to your coaches, athletic director, musical directors or the director of student activities with any questions or concerns you may have. Adherence to the guidelines are mandatory. We cannot let down our guard as we continue to strive to remain healthy.

For those families that do not have access to the Internet, you can pick up the daily health form (which needs to be filled out daily with your son/daughter’s temperature and health condition(s)) and the waiver from their coach, the athletic trainers or the Athletic Office.

This continues to be a fluid situation. As information and guidelines from the Governor, Ohio Department of Health, the OHSAA and the National Federation of High School Sports change, we will continue to review our situation. The slogan, “We are Pickerington” has never been more appropriate. We will get through this together.

The updated Phase 3 Parent Guidelines are listed below. **Please note: red highlighted text denotes changes since the first part of Phase 3.**
