Most Staff Asked Not to Report on Monday — Coronavirus Closure Latest Info

Important Message from PLSD image

This is a reminder that classes are canceled in Pickerington Schools beginning on Monday, March 16, 2020, as part of an extended closure which will last for at least three weeks as ordered by Gov. Mike DeWine due to the coronavirus.

**New information for staff: we are now asking most staff NOT to report to school tomorrow or Monday, March 30th, as previously planned. Only maintenance, grounds, food services and custodians are required to report to work. With most staff out of the building, cleaning can take place in a safer environment one day earlier, with less interaction among other employees because most are working from home.

Pickerington Local Schools’ “grab and go” meal program will still take place Monday through Friday during the weeks of March 16 through March 20, and March 30 through April 3. Breakfast and lunch will be provided in one bag. Meals will not be available the week of Spring Break, March 23-27. Meals can be provided for anyone through the age of 18, free of charge. Pick up times will be between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. weekdays at Tussing Elementary, Harmon Middle School and Ridgeview Junior High School.

The Governor’s expectations were clear to avoid group gatherings, if possible, to allow for “social distancing.” Building administrators will communicate with staff as we continue to plan for students being out of school for at least the next three weeks.

As you know, beginning on Tuesday, March 17, students will begin completing Blizzard Bag/online learning assignments at home during the duration of the closure. Students and staff will not be expected to work/complete assignments during the district’s normally scheduled Spring Break, March 23-27.

Since students will be completing assignments at home, classes will not have to be extended into the summer. All school events, athletic practices and games, clubs, meetings, etc. are canceled until further notice. There will be no student events during the required school closure period.

Pickerington Schools’ Welcome Center will be closed during the closure as well. Appointments will be rescheduled and we will move to an online enrollment process.

Please continue to watch our social media channels, your Infinite Campus inbox, and here on the Pickerington Schools’ website for the latest information.

Thank you parents, students and staff for making the best of a difficult situation. Please continue to be patient and continue to take care of your family and yourself.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chris Briggs
Superintendent
