Pickerington Local Schools has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for site preparation on the district-owned McGill property, located on Lockville Road and Opportunity Way in Pickerington. The district plans to prepare the property for future school use, such as an additional school building campus after a recent study projected substantial growth in student enrollment over the next decade.

Cooperative Strategies, an educational facilities research and planning company, projected enrollment in Pickerington Schools would grow by more than 1,000 students over the next five years and approximately 1,800 students in ten years.

“By preparing the site to be shovel-ready now, the district will be in the best position possible to address our increasing student enrollment,” stated the district’s Business Manager Vince Utterback

Once a proposal is selected, the goal is to begin grading and preparation work for utilities (electric, water, and sanitation lines) this spring. The site preparation will be paid from the permanent improvement fund, which is separate from the general operating budget and is designated specifically for projects such as facility improvements.

“Preparing the site now helps to mitigate future costs, including the cost of lost time,” added Superintendent Dr. Chris Briggs. “It allows us to be more nimble in the future, and gives us greater flexibility on how we address our needs.”
