CommUNITY Fair To Feature Student Performances, Local Vendors

2018 Community Fair will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. September 29 at Central

The third annual Pickerington Schools CommUNITY Fair will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Pickerington High School Central.

As in previous years, the fair is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. This year, the family friendly event will feature several song and dance performances, a fashion show featuring native clothing, and country projects created by Pickerington students.

The CommUNITY Fair will host many vendors including various free healthcare services, a law firm specializing in immigration, Alcohol and Drug Prevention Services, Human Rights educators, artifacts from different countries, a henna artist, food samples from different cultures, a food truck, and a photo booth.

Local families will host language lessons and book readings as well as craft stations where visitors can create a variety of crafts including maracas, shell crafts, Japanese windsocks, and rain sticks.

This year’s fashion show will feature native clothing from several countries including Armenia, Korea, Gambia, India and Ghana.

This year, the CommUNITY Fair held a logo design contest. Participants were asked to create a design that relates to the Pickerington community’s place in the larger global community as well as the diversity of the Pickerington community. Congratulations to the winner of the 2018 Pickerington CommUNITY Fair logo design contest, Pickerington High School North student, Anna Stanley! See her design below.

The fair extends an invitation to local families and community members to participate by showcasing their culture and heritage and by providing educational experiences to students and members of the community.

The district recognizes celebrating the rich diversity in Pickerington as a part in its mission. The CommUNITY Fair helps create that environment and increases the understanding and inclusion of all the cultures in the community.
