District Junior High, Middle School Families Invited to College & Career Family Night

It’s never too early to start thinking about your child’s college and career, and a PLSD event planned for Nov. 13 can help you start that process.

The eighth annual College and Career Family Night will be held at Ridgeview STEM Jr. High (130 Hill Rd S.), but it is for all district junior high and middle school students and their families.

The free event will begin at 5 p.m. with “The Career Path Less Taken” movie. During the event, dinner will not be provided but you may choose to purchase items from the following food trucks (with space to eat in Ridgeview’s cafeteria):

• Schmidt’s

• Pitabilities

• Star City Sliders

• Pizza Cottage

Non-Perishable food items will also be collected at the door to support the Pickerington Food Pantry.

Beginning at 6 p.m., there will be a showcase of informational presentations until 8 p.m.

“The sessions at College and Career Family Night are designed to help build the foundation for families to start seriously thinking about their children’s college and careers,” said Kris Owen, school counselor at Ridgeview.

Informational sessions will cover a variety of relevant topics, including:

• College Admissions 101

• Gifted course progression

• Preparing for scholarships now

• Saving for college/training programs

• Career Center opportunities

• NCAA athletics and your future

• Smart study habits

• Makerspace

• Homework help

• National Junior Honor Society

• Military Connections

• Digital Playground

• Graduation requirements

• HART Hillard Awareness Program

• Service learning

• College Credit Plus/flex credit

• High school and junior high student panels

• Success skills for college and career

• College lift-off

• STEM activities

• Creating a college-going culture at home

and more!
