Letter from the Principal

WELCOME TO THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

I am pretty sure that this summer has flown by for everyone! We have been busy preparing for the upcoming school year. The custodians have done an amazing job getting the school ready for the students to return. Please understand that things may change as we get more information and guidance from Governor DeWine and the Health Department, but we are excited and planning for our new year. Hopefully, you have been able watch the Board of Education meetings and know that we intend to start the school year in a hybrid model. This means that your student will attend school with a cohort (which will be roughly half the amount of students that we normally have in the building). Cohorts will be the same for families so if you have a student in another building they will all attend classes on the same day. Cohorts will attend either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday, with Wednesday being a virtual day for all students in the district. We are looking into how to get schedules/cohorts to families so please be patient with us. More details about the school day will look like will be forthcoming as soon as they are available. Also, please note that masks will be required for students who are riding the bus and in the school buildings, so please work with your student on the importance of wearing a mask for everyone’s safety. As always, please contact the office if you have any questions.

Important Back To School Information

School Supply Lists

We know that some of you like to take advantage of the early Back to School Sales and have been waiting for supply lists. As a part to reopen school buildings, we are recommending that students carry a minimal amount of supplies. Keep in mind that your student will attend 6 different classes during the day and that these supplies are for personal use only as we are trying to limit shared supplies. Thank you

Suggested materials:

  • Notebook/Folder for each class
  • 1 Composition Notebook
  • 2 colors of Highlighter
  • Pencils
  • Colored Pencils
  • Wired Headphones/Earbuds (NO Bluetooth)
  • Pen (2 colors)
  • 1 Package of tissues
  • Pencil Pouch
  • Non-glass water bottle
  • A mask for daily wear (carry a 2nd mask as a back up in your backpack!)
  • Backpack (students will be using backpacks in lieu of lockers this year at LJH)
Daily Schedule (Start/Stop Times)

We are currently reviewing our bell schedules for the 20-21 school year and will be making changes to accommodate students moving through the halls safely, in smaller groups. These changes will include utilizing multiple entrances and exits for students before and after school, as well as converting to one-way hallway traffic when moving about the building. As soon as our new bell schedule is confirmed, we will share it here for you.(Don’t worry, we will be accommodating for extra ‘travel time’ between classes through one-way hallways in our new 20-21 bell schedule – so you will have time to make it to class!)

The Lakeview school day begins at 7:15am and ends at 2:10pm.

Lakeview Athletics

Register your athlete!

Lakeview and Pickerington North Athletics are excited to share a brand new Athletic website this year:  www.pickeringtonpanthers.org

All information athletic-related including registration, physicals and schedules can be found through this site.

Fall Sport pre-season drug testing will take place Thursday, Aug 6 beginning at 9:00am. Each sport has been assigned a specific time and your coach will meet you out front to bring you in at your specified time, to help with social distancing. PLEASE NOTE:  Football will NOT be included in this round of testing! We will follow up with more information about the football test date as soon as it is available. Drug test fees are $16 per student athlete and will be added to your Infinite Campus fees. We will not be accepting any cash on Thursday, aligning with PLSD’s efforts to remain cashless this year. Student athletes should bring a student ID if they have one and if not, each student will need to know their Infinite Campus Student ID code (which they may know as their “lunch code”).

Be sure to register your student athlete right now for any sports they may be interested in throughout the year, so you can begin receiving any communication that may be released pertaining to that sport!

School Fees

Academic Fee Information

The Treasurer’s Office will post 2020-2021 School Fees this Fall. Please check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal throughout the school year for fee updates. Please make sure all of your past fees are up to date before the 20-21 school year begins!

Shot Requirements for 7th Graders 2020/2021 School Year

Currently, students are required to get a Tdap shot (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) to begin their 7th-grade year.  In addition, all incoming 7th graders will need a Meningococcal vaccine (Meningitis).  Meningitis is a vaccine-preventable disease that is on the rise in teens and college dormitories.  Your child may have already received these shots.  Check with your healthcare provider for current vaccine records.  Documentation of receiving these shots will be required to begin school and avoid exclusion.  Please turn in all documentation to the school.  We recommend scheduling early to avoid the rush.  Thank you for your cooperation.  To have your child vaccinated, call and schedule an appointment with your primary care physician or your local Health Department.

Find the latest Junior High Health Forms here. Forms may be submitted to Lakeview, or emailed to: melanie_thompson@plsd.us

Backpacks instead of Lockers

Locker Directions

We are designing our school days in the building with student safety at the forefront. In lieu of using lockers this year, students will be permitted to carry backpacks to more safely handle their personal belongings throughout the school day. Be sure to add a backpack to your Back To School preparation list this year!

School Lunches

Lunch Price

The district is currently working on guidelines to ensure student safety, when picking up their lunch in our Lakeview cafeteria. We are working on a ‘touchless system’ to allow students to purchase their food. In place of our past keypad system, students will be issued a lunch ID, that will link to their lunch account. ID’s will be scanned at checkout to pay for lunch items. Lakeview will be issuing each student their lunch ID in a protective ID pouch on a lanyard. As more information is available, we will share it here.

For middle school, junior high, and high school, the school lunches will be $2.75. Premium meals will be $3.50.

Breakfast prices will be $1.50

Study Tables

Study Tables Description

We will be receiving more specific guidance on how we will conduct Study Tables as needed, during the 2020-2021 school year. If study tables are used, they will only be available to students who’s cohort is in the building that day. Students working remotely that day will need to return to school at practice/workout/game time, but will not have access to study tables. We will update this information here as soon as further guidance is provided.

The following outlines our typical process for Athletic and Activity Study Tables after school:

Study Tables were designed to provide a safe and quiet environment where students can relax, have a snack, and do homework while waiting for their coach or activity advisor to begin their practice/meeting. Since our teacher workday ends at 3:00 p.m., we provide Study Tables coverage until 3:10 p.m.

Please remind your student that athletes are held to a higher standard (it’s in the athletic handbook) and coaches expect them to utilize Study Tables to the best of their ability, to treat all staff respectfully, and to be prepared to be focused and ready-to-go for practices and games at 3:10 p.m.

Lakeview does not give permission for any student to leave Study Tables early, unsupervised. We do want parents to know that some students are leaving school and heading to Wendy’s and Kroger’s during this time. If a student does not stay for Study Tables, they are not permitted back in the building until their coach is here to let them back in the athletic doors C.

We cannot have students coming and going as they please. Should your student have an appointment after school, you will need to make arrangements ahead of time with the coach about your plan to connect your athlete with his/her team/coach.

Please review all of these expectations with your student.
