Reporting An Absence

Parents/guardians are asked to notify the school by 9:00 a.m. when their student is going to be absent. Attendance is calculated into a student’s record as follows: 1/2 day absence is charged when a student has missed at least 1 hour and 25 minutes. A full day is charged when a student has missed 3 hours and 45 minutes or more.

The State of Ohio BOE, through EMIS Reporting, counts every minute that a student is not present in school. Those minutes are added up by the State of Ohio BOE for the total amount of time out of school. Pickerington Schools will keep you informed via attendance letters periodically throughout the school year. You may also choose to check attendance through your Infinite Campus parent portal.

HOMEWORK: When absent please check Google Classroom and follow any instructions set forth by your teachers (such as their own website, their syllabus, etc.)

We appreciate and thank every student and all of our families for attending to attendance matters and therefore honoring our Lakeview Values by respecting yourself, others, school, and learning.

Change of Address / Updating Student Information

All requests for changes of address on school records must be submitted to the Welcome Center for processing. Residential address changes cannot be processed by a child’s school office staff or by Petermann Transportation.

Any changes to a student’s home address must be requested on the district’s change of student information form. This form includes a standard authorization, to be signed by the parent, allowing for the release of residential and utility information to Pickerington Schools upon request, if necessary.

This release also includes an explanation, per Ohio Revised Code, as to how it is determined where your child is to receive his/her tuition-free, public school education. By signing this release, you are also verifying that you have been informed of your legal responsibility to withdraw a child from school if you ever move outside school district boundaries. It also informs you of your tuition obligations if you fail to withdraw.

If you do not have the capability to print the form, contact the Welcome Center at 614.920.6180. We will be happy to mail, email or fax the form to you for completion. You also may pick up or return the form directly to the Welcome Center, rather than turning it in at your school office for intra-office transfer to us. This expedites the address change process.

After a change of student information form is received at our Welcome Center, the request will be checked to verify that:

  • the request has been signed and dated by the parent of the student;
  • acceptable proof of the change in residence is attached to the request;
  • an open enrollment request has been completed, if applicable. This is necessary if a change of residence, made during the school year, causes a change in the student’s attendance area but the parent wishes to have the student finish the current school year at his/her current building. Such a request is only considered for the student’s continued attendance through the end of the current school year. Note that buses do not cross school boundary lines to accommodate open enrollment students. Parents are responsible for transportation.

If the move has caused a change in the building the student is to attend, the involved school buildings are notified and the electronic and physical transfer of records takes place. Arrangements for the official start date in the new school can be made between you and the office staff of your child’s new school.

Bus transportation after change of address

The Welcome Center will notify Petermann Transportation of your change of home address. If bus service is available in your new area for your child, we begin the steps needed to arrange a new bus stop location “from and to” your new residence. Petermann staff establish all bus stops and notify drivers as quickly as possible. Your school building office staff will obtain all bus stop information from Petermann Transportation.

If a new bus stop must be established at any point in the route where the driver does not currently make a stop, this process may take two to three days. If necessary, your child’s school office can issue a bus pass if your child must ride the bus before the change can be finalized by Petermann Transportation.

This change in address change procedure applies only to changes in the actual physical address where a parent and the student reside. A temporary change of bus stop location at a place other than the student’s home (for situations such as babysitting arrangements) may be accepted in the school office of the building where your child attends.

A form requesting a new bus stop location can be downloaded from Petermann Transportation. The Welcome Center does not handle these changes. The forms should be submitted to your child’s school office or faxed them directly to Petermann Transportation.

Attendance Boundary Maps

The following maps provide a general outline of school building boundaries at the junior high and high school school levels. For a complete set of attendance maps, visit the district website.

Note that these maps should not be used when purchasing a home in Pickerington Schools, particularly near the shown boundaries. To confirm the attendance area of any property in the district, call our Welcome Center at 614.920.6180.

Visiting a Pickerington Local School during school hours

School Security Practices when visiting PLSD buildings

When visiting any Pickerington school building, please be prepared to face the camera (which is usually near the bell button,) announce your name, announce why you are here. Once you have been given permission to enter please have your driver's license or another valid ID card readily available to verify your identity and be prepared to sign in.

In addition, if you are a school employee from another building please be prepared to sign into our building. We have a Kiosk for this purpose in the main office.

For all: Even if we know who is at the door, we are expected to follow these procedures. Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your patience while we all adjust to these required procedures. We look forward to seeing you. Have a great day!

Bus Notes

What to do if your student needs to ride another bus

Petermann is our current bus company. Their staff can answer any questions you have regarding bussing issues. 614-837-8525

Should you need a permanent bus change, for example your student needs to ride the bus home to the babysitter’s house or the grandparent’s house, follow these simple steps: If you wish to make a change regarding your student’s pick-up or drop-off location, please log in to the online system and click on the “Parent Communication” link. Follow the instructions for completing the form. The alternate bus stop must be in the same attendance area as your child. Alternate stops outside that area will not be approved.

Bus Rides: Should your student need to ride the bus home with another student on any particular day, you must write a bus note, follow these simple steps:  1) Start writing a bus note that includes the appropriate date  2) Document who your student is riding the bus with and what that bus number is  3) Call Petermann 614-837-8525 and get their permission. There is sometimes not enough room on the bus so if they decline your request you will need to make other arrangements for your student to get to their friend’s house. If they approve your request then document that on your bus note.  4) List your student’s name and state that you give your permission.  5) Sign the bus note.  6) Have your student bring their bus note to the main office for the principal’s signature.  7) At dismissal, your student will hand their completed bus note to the bus driver.

Example bus note:  08/15/2019 I give Joey VanLake permission to ride bus #21 home with Johnny Panther. Jane Doe at Petermann has approved. Thank you, Freddie VanLake 555-555-0000
