How do I know what's going on at Lakeview?

Most information can be found online, by visiting the Pickerington Local School District’s website. Lakeview-specific information can be found on Lakeview’s section of the PLSD website. The main communication vehicle the Principal uses to communicate building-specific news and information, is the Weekly Parent Bulletin. The bulletin is emailed weekly to the email address you have listed in Infinite Campus, and also is available in the News & Events section of our website. Be sure to keep an eye on our Social Media accounts also for timely announcements: TWITTER – @lakeview_jh, FACEBOOK – Lakeview_JH_PLSD

School-Wide:  Each morning and afternoon, the Principal makes building-wide announcements. It is important to make sure your student understands that most information she/he needs to know about what’s going on in the school and when, is communicated during these announcements! Lakeview’s daily announcements can also be viewed online on the Lakeview Website, and students have access to the Daily Announcements in Google Classroom.

Assignments: Class assignments are managed through Google Classroom. Teachers will communicate if they have additional resources students need to be aware of, such as a class website, etc.

Athletics:  LJHS Athletics information is managed on the LJHS Athletic Website, by our Athletic Director Colin Beemiler (colin_beemiller@plsd.us). Our Athletic website for the 2021-2022 school year is with PHSN’s, and all information will be available on the site www.pickeringtonpanthers.org.  Registration for all LJH sports is now open on the site. Registration can be found under MORE at the top of the home page. Stay tuned to www.pickeringtonpanthers.org for announcements, dates and more information.

Summer conditioning, work outs and practices will be announced on the LJH Athletic website. Once registered with the site and for your sport, you will begin receiving communications regarding schedules. All summer conditioning and work out communication is handled by the coach. Keep an eye on www.pickeringtonpanthers.org for announcements and schedules as well!

– During the school year try outs, open gyms and practices are typically announced on the daily announcements, so be sure students are listening. The Daily Announcements can also be found on our website, and students have access through Google Classroom.

– Once team rosters are established, each coach will designate the platform they will use for team/parent communication.

Deliveries for Students

According to the Student Handbook, deliveries of outside food (from parents or a service), balloons or flowers for students are not permitted.

During our COVID Hybrid schedule, accessing the school will work a little differently this year. Visitors are not permitted in buildings, so we encourage you to make sure your student has everything they need before leaving the house in the morning! If you must drop something off, please be sure the item is labeled plainly with the student’s name, and deposit it in the Student Drop Off box at our front door. You can ring the buzzer to let us know you left the item. Items will be collected each period and we will route the item to the student when we can. Typically we try to let the student know at the end of the period, rather than interrupting class. If a student forgot an item for an after school activity (such as sports equipment), it is best to plan to meet them at the end of the day to get it to them.

Early Dismissals and Late Arrives/Returns

When your student needs to leave school during the school day for an appointment, etc., sending a note, emailing or calling the Attendance line allows us to give your student an Early Dismissal slip. This will serve as an excuse for your student to leave class and come to the front office to sign out. When you arrive at the school to pick your student up, please park in our front lot and ring the doorbell at Door A (Main entrance) to let us know you’re here. We’ll ask you to wait at the door while we sign your student out, and then they will meet you at the front door.

When dropping your student back off at school to sign in, you may drop them at the front curb and they may sign themselves back into school in the front office.

Electronic Devices

Although we allow students to have cell phones and electronic devices at school, they are to be set on silent mode or turned off during the school day and must be kept in your student’s backpack. Students may not use their devices in the cafeteria or during class changes. Students may not use earbuds in the hallways because they cannot hear teacher directions, creating a safety issue. Please refer to the school policy regarding electronic devices in the student  handbook. We appreciate your support in enforcing these policies with our students.

Fees

Once fees are posted by PLSD, families can view fees due by visiting the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  All types of fees may be paid by cash, check or money order (payable to PLSD) or credit card.  Online payments are applied onto Infinite Campus immediately and are highly encouraged.

It's important to keep Infinite Campus updated!

To ensure you continue receiving important messages from the district and your student’s building, all parents with students at any grade level need to update your Infinite Campus information and contact preferences.  Go to: our website “Updating Your Infinite Campus Info and Contact Preferences”

Principal Hanagan sends a weekly Parent Newsletter throughout the school year using the contacts listed on Infinite Campus.

Lunch Money

Please make sure your child has a packed lunch or lunch money each day.  The cost of lunch at Pickerington Schools is determined by the school board each summer.  For the 2020-2021 school year student lunches are free. Additional items must be purchased, and have their prices posted. Any leftover monies in lunch accounts at the end of each year are carried over to your student’s account for the next school year.

There are multiple ways to add money to your student’s lunch account (be sure to have their Student ID/Lunch Code handy):

  • My Payments Plus – money can be deposited via credit or debit card online
  • Call Meal Pay Plus at 866-711-7341 for their account line (in English or Spanish)
  • Speak to a person at Meal Pay Plus by calling 877-237-0946
  • Check – please make checks payable to “PLSD Food Service”. Indicate the student’s first and last name, along with their Student ID number on the memo line of the check. Students can give the check to the lunchroom cashier.

Free and reduced lunches – applications are available online

Please contact the Food Services Department at 833-3645 for additional information.

Borrowing Money:  Page 4 of the 2020-2021 Junior High School Student Handbook indicates that “Pickerington schools has a no-cash policy; therefore the office cannot loan money to students.”.

Outside Food:  Students may not go out for lunch and then return for classes. Also, no outside food is permitted to be brought in for lunch delivered by parents or a delivery service. You can read more about the Cafeteria policies on Page 4 of the 2019-2020 Student Handbook.

Making calls from school

Students have access to a phone in the main office for extreme situations.  Unless it is an emergency, students will not be pulled from class to make/receive phone calls. If you have a message you need to get to your student during the day, please contact the main office and we will be happy to send a note down to your student at the end of class!

Please do not ask your student to contact you via their mobile phone, or to watch for messages from you during the school day on their phone, as PLSD Policy requires mobile phones be turned off and secured in backpacks. The office will be happy to assist in getting a message to your student when you have an urgent situation, please just give us a call at 614-830-2200. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Volunteering

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to volunteer for Pickerington Schools. For all volunteers, there is a mandatory Volunteer Application to complete and a Volunteer Code of Conduct to read that you can find online at www.pickerington.k12.oh.us, Forms, or in our main office. It’s easy, valuable to our staff and students, and a lot of fun to volunteer at Pickerington Schools. Lakeview appreciates you!
