Welcome to Heritage Elementary School! We are so pleased to have you as part of our school family. The Heritage Mission Statement is We Educate, We Encourage, We Empower. Leaders Today / Ready for Tomorrow. The leadership culture has been implemented using The Leader In Me approach through FranklinCovey. This approach is based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey and it establishes a school-wide culture that supports and lives out these habits. The 7 Habits are a common language used by all staff and is integrated into everything we do.

As these habits become part of your child’s character, you will see increased leadership skills, goal setting, problem-solving and relationship abilities. These habits will positively impact your child’s education as well as provide them lifelong skills that will carry into adulthood.
7 Habits

Heritage Elementary is proud to be a Leader In Me school. A large part of our success is due to our parents and community embracing the 7 Habits as well. For some of you this might be new and for many others a refresher. If you ever want to learn more about The Leader In Me or the 7 Habits, please give us a call and we will gladly get you more information. The 7 Habits are listed below and have become the norm of the Heritage Elementary school culture. Discussing the habits regularly and implementing them at home can make a big difference in your child.

  • HABIT 1: Be Proactive

I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.

  • HABIT 2: Begin with the End in Mind

I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision. I look for ways to be a good citizen.

  • HABIT 3: Put First Things First

I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.

  • HABIT 4: Think Win-Win

I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. When conflicts arise, I look for a win-win solution.

  • HABIT 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoint (paradigm). I listen to others without interrupting. I listen with my ears, my eyes, and my heart. I am confident in voicing my ideas.

  • HABIT 6: Synergize

I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas because I know that by teaming with others, we can create better solutions than what any one of us could alone. I look for Third Alternatives.

  • HABIT 7: Sharpen the Saw

I eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep (body). I learn in lots of places, not just at school (brain). I spend time with family and friends (heart). I take time to find meaningful ways to help people (soul). I balance all four parts of myself.

Leadership Teams

The Color Crew Team –Makes our school and classrooms welcoming and attractive. MISSION: To work together to create colorful artwork to make our school feel welcoming and to make Heritage shine!

The Health and Wellness Team– Helps the students here at Heritage find ways to develop stronger minds and bodies. MISSION: We will do our best to help students make responsible choices for both their bodies and minds. It will be done by making kids aware of responsible eating choices at both school and home. We will also try to get our classmates more excited about being active and physically fit through exercise and fun games.

The Gardening Team– Beautifies the outside of our school by gardening, learning about nature, and helping animals and insects. MISSION: To learn about plants because they are special to the earth.

The Scrapbooking and Photography Team– Promotes the 7 Habits by photographing pictures of school groups, events and activities for display in the hallways and in the Heritage Yearbook. MISSION: We the members of the scrapbooking team will always follow the seven habits. We will help others, be creative, and help photograph school events. We will decorate Heritage Elementary to make it look fantastic!

The Green & Clean Team– Empowers students to help the environment through waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and pollution prevention. MISSION: The Green and Clean team wants to work on making a positive environmental impact on our school. We want to reduce paper usage, increase recycling, and promote energy conservation.

The Kids who Cook Team– Promotes healthy eating habits by cooking and testing recipes that are healthy, delicious, and fun to make. MISSION: We, the Kids Who Cook, will cook healthy and delicious food with passion and the love of cooking. We will never give up on a recipe, and we will respect others’ cooking. Let’s cook up a storm!

The G.I.R.L.S. With Girl Power Team– Runs together in order to practice making good decisions, being a good friend, and realizing the power of their potential with other girls in the school. MISSION: We the girls of GIRL POWER are intelligent and powerful. We will think before speaking. We will synergize to make the world a kinder place. We are independent and we can accomplish anything.

The Young Gents Team– Empowers young men to develop the qualities needed to be a successful gentleman on the field, in the classroom, and with friends and family. MISSION: We the Young Gents of Heritage Elementary are men who give firm handshakes and hold doors. We will be responsible and have good manners. We will NEVER bully. We are gentlemen who are always KIND to all others.

The Jump Rope and Friendship Team– Practices collaboration and problem solving skills while having fun exercising through the sport of jump rope. MISSION: We will follow the 7 habits. We will always try our personal best and take risks. We will work together and help each other. We will have fun!

The Performance Leaders Team– Practices being in front of an audience by performing on stage through dance, poetry slams, reader’s theater, student-directed short acts and sign language. MISSION: We work together to entertain ourselves and our community through acting, dancing, marching, and honorable leadership.

The Music Team– Practices singing and dancing to music in order to inspire the imagination. MISSION: We want to share our love of music to everyone at Heritage and beyond, so they can feel the same joy that music brings to our hearts! Our hope is to inspire and make the world a better place.

The Announcements Team– Helps our school enjoy the announcements and informs students and staff about what is happening at Heritage by speaking with a loud, clear, enthusiastic and entertaining voice. MISSION: We, the Announcements Team of Heritage Elementary, will lead the school in the Pledge of Allegiance.  We will give the announcements every day to inform the school of important events.

Community Service– Synergizes to find ways to help Heritage and our community in a positive way by volunteering our time and energy to those who need us most. MISSION: We will use the 7 Habits to be leaders of our school and our community. We will help other people by making the world a better place. We will try our best to make others feel better.

Yoga and Mindfulness– Learns and practices yoga poses, stretches, and mindfulness to help sharpen your mind, body, heart, and soul. MISSION: We the Heritage Yoga Leaders promise to use the 7 habits. We will listen, respect others and have fun! We will work hard practicing Yoga, and always remember that Balance is Best!

Invention Convention– Develops and presents an invention of their own creation and helps other students to design their own inventions. MISSION: Beginning with the end in mind and using the STEM process, each person will invent an original product that solves a problem. We will synergize with Mr. Stanley to complete our product throughout the year. This product will eventually be presented to judges at the District Invention Convention.
