Letter from the Principal

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

On behalf of administration and staff of Harmon Middle School, I would like to welcome each of you to our building and the 2018-2019 school year. The upcoming year is going to be exciting. Over the summer, teachers and administrators have been preparing to make this school year the most positive experience in your child’s education.

Join Us on Tuesday, August 14, from 5:30-7 pm for Harmon’s Open House and Meet Your Teacher Night.

Important Information:

  • Harmon’s school hours will be 8:40 am to 3:30 pm. We ask that students be seated and in their classroom by 8:40 am, so that they are ready to begin class. Students may enter the building at 8:30 am, but not before, as there will not be any staff on duty before that time.
  • Attendance is very important. Please be sure your student arrives to school on time. When they are late, they are not only missing out on vital instruction and important information that is shared at the beginning of the day, but they interrupt the instruction of others as well.
  • Completion of homework is not only critical to your child’s grades, but also vital to their overall success and progress in school. You can expect for your child to have approximately 1 – 1.5 hours of homework daily, that should include at least 30 minutes each night from their Accelerated Reading book, as well as time to complete work done in class that day.
  • We encourage you to volunteer in some way and come in and visit our school on a regular basis. Research shows that students are more likely to be successful in school when parents are involved. Even if you are not able to make regular visits, stay in touch with your student’s teachers, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. When visiting the classroom, you must first contact the principal so that the teachers can be given 24 hour notice. We encourage you to visit our classrooms because there are always exciting lessons to watch!!
  • If you have a concern regarding a classroom issue or a teacher, please first contact the teacher to resolve the issue. I will be happy to sit in on any meeting that you request. However, the first line in communication is the teacher.
  • While teachers will make every effort to contact parents when a child is having difficulty at school, be sure you are signed up through the parent portal of Infinite Campus. Directions for setting up your account can be found on our webpage, if you have not already done so.

I am genuinely excited to meet every one of you. Feel free to stop by at any time. If you have any questions or concerns this year, do not hesitate to give me a call at 614.835.2000, ext. 2006, or email me at Jared_Moore@plsd.us. In closing, successful schools are those who have parents, students, and teachers who are partners in achieving academic success.
