Darren Drake

I have wanted to be a school counselor since high school. To reach my goal I started as a middle school teacher in Maryland for 7 years. I really enjoyed teaching. I taught everything from Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, Math and I even taught Physical Education for 2 periods one year. Lots of fun. Right after completing my counseling degree at Bowie State University I became a school counselor at the same school I was teaching. Again, I had many fond memories as a counselor there and learned a great deal. During those 9 years I also coached basketball for the middle school and high school. Good times.

Then my wife and I were blessed with our first child and we did not have any family in the area so we moved to central Ohio where we have family on my wife's side.

I arrived at Pickerington Local Schools in 2004 and absolutely love it here. I was a school counselor my first 5 years at Violet Elementary School. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff, students and parents of Violet Elementary. I then helped open Toll Gate Elementary School. I feel very fortunate to work with such a dedicated and talented staff at Toll Gate Elementary. In my humble opinion Toll Gate Elementary School is a special place where teachers, students, and families meet to make learning fun.
