BEHAVIORAL EXPECTAIONS
The emphasis at Heritage Elementary is on safety and learning. Each staff member works toward providing the safest and best educational environment for your child. Good discipline promotes an appropriate learning environment. We ask that each parent support this expectation of student behavior by encouraging their child to obey our school rules:
-
Respect yourself, others and your school.
-
Behave in a way that will allow teachers to teach and yourself and others to learn.
Your support will help promote the educational process.
ABSENTEE REPORTING
Please remember to call the attendance hotline to report your child absent if they will be missing school. The 24-hr number is 614-920-6100. Ohio state law requires daily accounting of all students who are absent. This requires the office to contact the parent/guardian by phone for each absence that is not reported. If we are unable to reach you, we are required to call those listed on the emergency contact list until we can verify your child’s absence. If you have a planned absence is it important to not only report the absence in advance to the teacher but also to the school office.
If you want to request homework for your child for the day(s) they are out, the request must be called in by 9:30 am. The homework is allowed to go home with a sibling or another child or the homework can be picked up in the office. Homework can be picked up in the office between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. It is helpful to let the office know what time you plan to be here so we can assure it will be ready.
SAFE & ORDERLY SCHOOL ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Arrival: Please CLICK HERE to see our complete arrival procedure.
Please remember: There is no adult supervision for students before 9:00 a.m. so please do not drop students off at school before 9:00 a.m. After 9:10 a.m. please escort students into the building. They will need to be signed in and issued a tardy pass to class.
Dismissal: Dismissal for parent pick up is at 3:25 pm. Dismissal for busses is at 3:35 pm. If you are picking up your child, parent pick up is directly in front of the school heading north on East Street. Please remain in your car while in the pick up line and a staff member will escort your child to you.
VISITORS
All school visits begin by signing in at the office first. This safety measure alerts us as to who is in the building. After you sign in you will be given a badge to wear while in the building.
CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS
Heritage has implemented a school-wide policy regarding birthday treats. The policy is as follows:
-
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with the class, we invite you to send non-food items such as stickers, pencils, erasers, a book or game for the class, etc.
-
We do not permit food items to be a part of the classroom birthday celebrations. This practice will be in place for every classroom at Heritage Elementary.
