Pickerington High School Central student artist Montana Widener has received a silver medal in the prestigious national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The silver medal places Montana’s work among the top 1 percent of submissions in this nationwide competition.
Montana’s artwork in the jewelry category is a chainmail and leather armor sleeve. The award was selected by panels of arts professionals as reflecting work by some of the most talented young artists in the nation.
This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted to the competition. Only the top 1 percent is recognized at the national level.
The competition has been held since 1923 and has been awarded to such notables as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Lena Dunham, and Paul Chan.
Congratulations, Montana, and thanks for making Pickerington proud!
