Central Racers Race in National Soap Box Derby

Congratulations to Pickerington High School Central Tiger Tech team members Taylor Thompson and Nick Johnson, who were the driver and mechanic (respectively) in the 80th All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships.

The competition was held in Akron in July. The team made it to the second round in the competition.

Taylor and Nick were the first all-student team ever to win the Columbus Local Soap Box Championship in the Super Stock Division. Winning in that competition earned them a place in the nationals.

Taylor plans to race again during her senior year at Central and has plans to go back to the World Championships as a Soap Box Rally Champion from Region 6, which includes Ohio and West Virginia. She also qualified for the State Championships in robotics last year, and will be returning to that as well in hopes of qualifying for the Robotics World Tournament.

Nick was one of the district’s first Project Lead the Way graduates from Central this past spring. He will be attending Central Ohio Technical College in the fall to pursue engineering.

Nick also qualified for the state championships in robotics last year. Nick will be volunteering at Ridgeview STEM Junior High with Mike Ouimet to start a Tiger Tech Program in hopes to duplicate the success he has been apart of while at Central.

Thanks for making Pickerington proud!
